The Ultimate Ronbus Quanta Customization Guide

The Ultimate Ronbus Quanta Customization Guide

How to dial in the most tunable paddle on the market.

The Ronbus Quanta line is one of the most talked-about paddle families in pickleball right now — and for good reason. At $119, it’s one of the few paddles at any price point that rewards customization. Out of the box, the Quanta is extremely lightweight and leans toward a control-oriented feel. With the right modifications, it can become almost anything you want it to be.

This guide covers the four Quanta shapes, what each one does, and exactly how to tune yours for your game.

The Four Shapes

The Quanta line comes in four shapes, each with a distinct feel and use case.

Shape Dimensions Best For
R1 Standard widebody All-around play, largest sweet spot
R2 Widebody, slightly elongated The most popular — best balance of reach and forgiveness
R3 Hybrid Players who want more reach without going fully elongated
R4 Elongated Maximum reach, tennis-style feel

The R2 is our most recommended starting point for most players. It’s the lightest to swing in the lineup, has an excellent sweet spot, and responds best to customization.

Why Customize?

Out of the box, the Quanta is intentionally light. Ronbus designed it this way to give players maximum flexibility. The raw paddle is essentially a blank canvas — and that’s the point.

The Quanta isn’t finished when it leaves the factory. It’s finished when you finish it.

Adding weight changes three things: power output, sweet spot size, and swing feel. The goal is to find the configuration that amplifies your strengths without creating new weaknesses.

The Baseline Setup (Beginner to Intermediate)

Add 2–3 grams at 3 and 9 o’clock.

This is the starting point for most players. Lead tape strips placed symmetrically on the sides of the paddle face increase stability and plow-through without dramatically changing the swing weight. The result is a paddle that can hold its own in baseline exchanges while keeping the soft game accessible.

This setup is ideal for players still developing their game who want a forgiving, controllable paddle with a bit more pop than stock.

The Power Setup (Intermediate to Advanced)

Add 4–6 grams at 3 and 9 o’clock, plus 1–2 grams at 12 o’clock.

Adding weight at the top of the paddle increases swing weight and drives more power into baseline shots, serves, and overheads. The trade-off is a slightly slower swing — which is actually a benefit for players who tend to over-hit.

This setup is for players who have developed their soft game and want the paddle to do more work on offensive shots.

The Control Setup (Advanced)

Add 1–2 grams at 6 o’clock (the handle end of the face).

Adding weight low on the paddle shifts the balance point toward the handle, which reduces the effective swing weight and makes the paddle feel more maneuverable at the kitchen. This setup is for players who already generate their own power and want the fastest possible hands in dink exchanges.

Grip Customization

The Quanta ships with a thin stock grip. Most players will want to add an overgrip immediately — both for comfort and to protect the original grip from wear.

Overgrip options at Spinwave:

Soft & Tacky Overgrip: Best for players who want a cushioned, grippy feel. Adds a small amount of thickness.

Dry Overgrip: Best for players who sweat heavily or prefer a thinner, more direct feel.

If you want to significantly increase grip size, a replacement grip is the better option. We can install one for you in-store at either Spinwave location.

Edge Guard Tape

Edge guard tape serves two purposes: protection and aesthetics. The Quanta’s edge is exposed carbon fiber, which can chip and crack if the paddle hits the court or fence. Edge guard tape absorbs that impact.

At Spinwave, we carry edge guard tape in multiple widths and colors. A 1-inch strip around the full perimeter of the paddle adds minimal weight (under 1 gram) and meaningfully extends the life of your investment.

Final Recommendation

If you’re new to the Quanta, start with the R2 and the Baseline Setup (2–3g at 3 and 9). Play with it for a few weeks. If you want more power, add weight. If you want faster hands, try moving weight lower. The beauty of this paddle is that you can keep adjusting without buying a new one.

Have questions about your specific setup? Come into either Spinwave location and we’ll build it out for you on the spot.
